How do Direct Debit payments work?

If you have a UK bank account, you can pay for your gifts using a one-off Direct Debit payment. Instead of your card details, you enter your bank account number and sort code, which sets up a transfer of the gift value from your account to Bola and Tunji.

This information is secure, and is not made available to us. Also, even though Direct Debit is often used for recurring payments, the funds are only taken once and the payment is never repeated.

The payment is processed by a company called GoCardless. GoCardless is an Authorised Payment Institution regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. GoCardless process more than $10bn in transactions a year.

You have cast-iron protection from fraudulent charges when making a Direct Debit payment. Under the Direct Debit Guarantee, you can get an immediate, no-questions-asked refund of any payment collected from your account, at any time. It is impossible to collect payment through Direct Debit without this guarantee.

More information on Direct Debit payments and GoCardless is available here.

We’ll notify Bola and Tunji of your gift payment right away, but the funds won’t be taken from your bank account immediately. Direct Debit collections take place after a few days. Your payment will then be automatically transferred to Bola and Tunji’s bank account.

If you’d prefer not to make an online payment this way, that’s OK. You can provide the value of your gift to Bola and Tunji by cash or cheque at any time, or you can make a credit or debit card payment through Stripe.
