Nick and Carrie’s Honeymoon Registry
Following our wedding in Northern Michigan we are leaving for a glorious trip to Central America!
Our travels begin in Antigua, Guatemala. After exploring one of the oldest colonial cities in all of the Americas, we hope to experience the famous Lake Atitlan which is nestled in the middle of many volcanoes and Mayan culture. We will be staying at Hotel Tzam Poc and Hotel Jardines del Lago. While there, we also want to visit the famous market at Chichicastenango.
Then on to the most spectacular of all Classic Maya sites, Tikal, with its tall temples poking above the forest canopy. We want to see the national park which boasts the Temple of the Two Headed Snake, built by King Yaxkin Caan Chac around 470 AD.
After a few days of exploring Guatemala, we are bound for Belize. We will stay at the Cotton Tree Lodge near Punta Gorda to live in the jungle. We will be immersed in rustic life with limited electricity and no cell phone service, and, apparently the caves in the rainforest are amazing this time of year. Next we will stay in a treehouse at Caves Branch for more expeditions on the river and in the jungle.
After unwinding in the rainforest, we are going to the small island of Caye Caulker to stay at Auxillou Beach Suites. Here the national motto is “Sub Umbra Florero” (I flourish in the shade) so we should be able to get plenty of relaxation on the beach. There are only three streets here, called Front Street, Back Street, and Middle Street - sounds a lot like Grosse Ile! :) While there’s not much on Caye Caulker… a few bars, seafood restaurants selling fresh lobster and conch, and stalls offering snorkel trips, dives, ferry rides… it’s all we need to finish out our trip!
We will be flying back home exhausted and happy following what we hope to be the best time of our lives.
